…As Edun Expresses Optimism About Nigeria’s Growth Prospects
After months of speculations about his plans to make changes in his executive council team, President Bola Tinubu on Monday slightly reshuffled the team, with the removal of two ministers from the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
A memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, listed the affected ministers as including Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun and Housing ministry counterpart, Arch. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.

A statement by the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Yomi Odunuga, indicated that the memo directed Edun to hand over to the Minister of State for Finance, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, who is now to the substantive Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
Similarly, Akume disclosed that the President nominated Dr. Muttaqha Darma as minister designate for the Housing and Urban Development Ministry and that Dangiwa had been directed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry.
The memo stated that all handing over and taking over processes should be completed on or before close of business on Thursday 23rd April, 2026.
Commenting on the President’s decision, Akume said: “These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The SGF stated that the President’s reshuffling of the FEC was in line with the powers conferred on him by Sections 147 and 148 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended).
The President thanked the outgoing ministers for their services to the nation while wishing them the best in all their future endeavours, assuring all cabinet members that “the process of reinvigoration shall be continuous.”
Meanwhile, Edun has expressed his appreciation to the President giving him for the opportunity to serve the country from the outset of his administration, saying that it has been an honour to contribute to the implementation of the administration’s economic agenda at a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s journey.
Noting that Tinubu assumed office at a time Nigeria was contending with difficult economic circumstances, the outgoing minister recalled that under the President’s leadership, the administration had worked to advance critical reforms that stabilised the macroeconomic environment, strengthened fiscal sustainability, and laid the foundation for inclusive and long-term growth.
Edun also thanked all stakeholders, both domestic and international, for their collaboration, engagement, and support throughout his period of service, adding that since the work of economic reform is, by its nature, a continuous process, he is optimistic about Nigeria’s growth prospects.
