The NIRSAL Microfinance Bank (NMFB) has debunked misleading reports relating to its disbursements on the Anchors Borrowers Programme (APB), saying that contrary to fake news reports that it disbursed N215 billion on the programme its actual disbursements stood at N51 billion so far.
The MfB’s management pointed out that its recent erroneously reported disbursement under the APB interventions had been sending wrong signals in the public, hence the need to clarify the micro lender’s position on the interventions.
It stated: “For the avoidance of doubt, our verified Anchors Borrowers Programme (ABP) intervention loan disbursements stand at ₦51 billion, not ₦215 billion. We urge the public and press to disregard the inaccurate reports.”
NMFB’s management emphasized the importance of fact-checking in financial reporting, calling on journalists to confirm figures with the bank before publication.
This is even as it maintained that the notice also addressed recurring confusion between NIRSAL Microfinance Bank and NIRSAL Plc., distinct entities with separate operations.
The management, therefore, charged media professionals to exercise due diligence to avoid misleading the public, stressing that the clarification aims to preserve transparency and trust in NMFB’s role in Nigeria’s financial intervention management programmes.
