The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Tuesday flagged off a 2-day Africa-BB-Maps initiative, thus positioning Nigeria as the first among 11 African countries to commence work on the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)-led broadband mapping initiative.
The commission in its official X account, indicated that the event featured key stakeholders from government agencies, industry leaders, and development partners, and that discussions focused on best ways to boost broadband infrastructure across the continent.
According to the telecoms sector regulatory commission, the discussions revolve on collaborative strategies for broadband infrastructure mapping, planning, and deepening of digital inclusion in SSA.
Industry experts believe that the NCC’s latest digital initiative holds great potential to fast-track the continent’s digital transformation, foster economic growth, and bring millions more Africans into the digital economy’s network.

They also projected that pioneering drive by the commission not only underscores Nigeria’s commitment to enhancing digital connectivity but also setting a precedent for stronger synergy among the countries bridge the digital divide across the SSA.
