The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) at the weekend advised electricity consumers to report distribution companies (DisCos) that failed to provide cables and transformers needed to improve electricity supply to them nationwide.
In a post on Saturday via its social media platforms, the commission maintained that DisCos had to provide every electricity facility to consumers, including poles, as part of their responsibility in the power sector value chain.
Specifically, the commission stated: “If your DisCo is asking you to provide any of these, kindly reach out to this dedicated email and phone number set-up to address these issues; Email:idn@nerc.gov.ng Phone No.:07074865354.”
In addition, it also advised the customers to use the call centre for any form of complaints by dialling the numbers “02013444331 or 09088999244 or send an email to complaints@nerc.gov.ng”.
It would be recalled that the commission had on March 22 this year warned consumers against self-procurement of transformers without a formal agreement with the DisCos.
The NERC’s Commissioner, Customer Affairs, Aisha Mahmud, who then maintained that it was not the responsibility of customers to procure transformers for the DisCos, clarified that before such procurement can be made, the customers and the DisCos must sign an undertaking.
She also advised customers to notify the DisCos within their jurisdiction of any outstanding electricity bill before moving into new premises.
