The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has introduced new mandatory requirements for Business Name Online Update requests as part of its sustained efforts to strengthen compliance, improve data accuracy, and enhance the integrity of Nigeria’s corporate registry.

In a Notice titled “Important Notice for Business Name Update” posted on the Commission’s official X handle on Wednesday, the commission states that the new rules take immediate effect and apply to all business owners seeking to update records associated with their registered business names.

According to the Notice, some of the new requirements are that a registered business owner must provide Date of Birth, Registered Office Email, Proprietor’s Email, Phone Number for the registered address or for the proprietor (if different), and Valid Means of Identification

The Commission clarified that these additional details were essential to ensure smooth and efficient processing of update requests, and also help verify identities, reduce fraudulent changes, and improve the accuracy of business data stored in the CAC registry.

The new updated business information initiative aligns with CAC’s sustained moves to modernize its digital systems and strengthen regulatory oversight.

With the latest directive to business owners, the Commission aims to enhance the integrity and reliability of business-name records, prevent misuse or fraudulent manipulation of business identities, ensure compliance with provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), and enhance communication between businesses and it through verified channels

The update also fits into CAC’s ongoing digital transformation, which includes improved portals for business registration, name reservation, and post-registration services.

Analysts believe that the latest move by the commission reinforces its commitment to transparency, accountability, and a more secure corporate data environment in line with global best practices.
