Based on the current micro and macroeconomic indices of the nation’s economy, investment analysts at Bancorp Securities Limited, a leading investment research and brokerage company in Nigeria, have projected that trading on the Nigerian Exchange this week will sustain positive momentum this week based on institutional inflows into the market.
The experts, in the firm’s ‘Weekly Stock Recommendation 16th-20th February 2026’ circulated to our correspondent on Monday, anticipated that gains across the sector, especially banking, consumer goods and industrials, would boost the momentum of the equities market with potential gains for investors.
Specifically, the analysts predicted: “We expect the equities market to maintain its positive momentum, underpinned by sustained institutional inflows into the market. Broad-based sector gains, particularly in banking, consumer goods, and industrials, would reinforce the rally.
“Overall, we anticipate selective buying to persist, especially in large-cap stocks. Additionally, the upcoming inflation release is expected to influence performance in the consumer goods sector, as moderation in price pressures could support improved sentiment and earnings expectations”, they added.

They recalled that for the second consecutive week ended last Friday the equities market sustained its upward trend, driven by rallies across the five sector indexes with the NGX All-Share Index (NGX-ASI) advancing by 6.16% week-on-week to close at 182,313.08 points, lifting the year-to-date return to 17.16%.
According to the experts, the market capitalization gained N4.08 trillion at the close of trading on the NGX last Friday, settling at N110.23 trillion as both total volume and value traded appreciated by 20.50% and 50.35% respectively, with 4.65 billion units exchanged at N193.32billion across 286,750 deals.
They noted that technically in the week under review, the NGX-ASI sustained a bullish structure with consecutive higher highs, while the sharp rise in traded value relative to volume signals stronger institutional participation, though the pace of the advance left room for near-term consolidation.
