President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank (CBN) Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, from office with immediate effect.
A statement signed by the Director, Information Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Willie Bassey, for the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, indicated that the suspension of the apex bank governor was sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.
Bassey stated that Emefiele had been directed to “immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms.”
Based on the Presidential directive, Mr. Folashodun Shonubi, Deputy Governor (Operations) of the apex bank will be in charge of the management of the bank until the conclusion of the investigations of Emefiele
