Despite the raging controversies over the real time transmission of election results issue in the draft Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026, President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday signed the bill, thereby giving legal backing to its implementation.
The signing of the bill took place at the President’s office at the State House, Abuja with principal officers of the National Assembly in attendance.
A day earlier, the National Assembly had passed the Electoral Act 2026 (Amendment) Bill amid some concerns raised by some politician over the electronic transmission of election results in real time.
President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, confirmed that the harmonised version of the bill, including the contentious Section 60(3), was passed by both chambers of the National Assembly.
