Tinubu Lauds NIPCO On Contributions To Energy Transition Initiatives

President Bola Tinubu has commended NIPCO, one of the downstream market operators, for its commitment to Nigeria’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and other energy transition initiatives, saying that the company’s  investments in the CNG sub-sector aligns with the administration’s energy security and economic diversification strategy.

Tinubu, who gave the commendation during a meeting with the company’s top management team at the State House on Tuesday in Abuja, thanked the oil and gas company particularly its support for the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI).

The President’s Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, quoted the President as stressing the importance of public-private partnerships in driving the transition to cleaner
and more affordable energy solutions for Nigerians.

According to him, the President lauded NIPCO’s efforts in promoting and supporting the “Switch to CNG” campaign, which has helped in raising public awareness and providing affordable CNG conversion kits even before the official kickoff of the Presidential CNG Initiative.

Tinubu said:  “Nigeria’s motorists can buy petrol at N1,000 per litre or equivalent gas per Standard Cubic Meter at N200. We have also introduced incentives for commercial motorists to convert from petrol to gas” free of cost.”

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for private sector investments and expanding Nigeria’s CNG infrastructure to enhance energy efficiency and economic growth.

In his remarks, the NIPCO Director, Mr. Ramesh Kasangra, who led the delegation, thanked President Tinubu for his steadfast support of the CNG sector, and restated his company’s readiness to strengthen its partnership with the government to ensure Nigeria’s energy transition drive remained on track in order to achieve the objectives.
