President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Engr. Dr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
Ramat is expected to leverage his professional skills and competences to improve the performance of the electricity industry by attracting more investments into the sector and ensure consumer protection, within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) policy thrusts
A multidisciplinary STEM professional and strategic governance expert, the new appointee holds a PhD in Strategic Management from Lincoln University, a Master’s degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from India, and a B.Eng in Electrical Engineering from Bayero University, Kano.
He also holds a suite of executive certifications from world-class institutions, including Harvard University (Big Data Analytics, Civil Engagement), Google (Workshop Administration), Microsoft (Azure Solutions Architect Expert), and Gonzaga University (Power Transmission and Distribution Systems).

A pioneer in digital security systems, Ramat also developed LURA, a next-generation smart surveillance platform that integrates IoT, biometrics, and real-time analytics to support community safety and combat organized crime.
Apart from his public service experience, he is the founder and CEO of AG Ramat Global Link and AG Ramat Global Apex, with ventures in engineering consulting and technology services. The new appointee was rated as one of the “50 Most Influential Young African Leaders” by the Pan African Youth Leadership Foundation (Dubai, 2022), and “Best Performing Local Government Chairman” by the Kano State House of Assembly.
