Tijani Seeks Global Partnerships To Catalyze Nigeria’s Tech Growth

Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, on Friday concluded  a diplomatic mission parleys spanning Wales and Sweden with a view to building strategic alliances and attract substantial investments into the nation’s burgeoning technology sector.

Tijani’s three-day tour which ended on May 3 featured his chairmanship of a virtual meeting with Ministry Directors to fine-tune operational strategies for optimal efficiency.

Subsequently, he opened discussions with the Global Lead for Artificial Intelligence/Deep Tech at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), World Bank, Lana Graf, to explore avenues for collaboration and investment in cutting-edge technologies.

The Minister then travelled to Wales, United Kingdom, where he engaged in discussions on crafting specialized programs to address Nigeria’s talent deficit in the semiconductor industry with technology experts at Swansea University, a tertiary institution renowned for its prowess in semiconductor fabrication.

Also, during the seminars and discussions at the SEMI Talent Forum, with the theme ‘Building a Digital Future,’ the Minister underscored the urgency of cultivating talent to meet the industry’s surging demand.

To achieve this, Tijani signed agreements with SecureID and SEMI Europe, to explore training initiatives and curriculum development, promising to invigorate Nigeria’s semiconductor landscape.

During his visit to Switzerland on invitation by Swedish government, the minister also engaged in a series of high-level discussions with key Swedish stakeholders, including Vinnova, in Stockholm on fostering investment partnerships in innovation and digital technologies with Nigeria.
