The Supreme Court, on Thursday, affirmed President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the February 25 2023 presidential election that held in the country.
The apex court dismissed the application by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to bring in new evidence in the appeal filed before it.
Delivering the lead judgment at the Supreme Court, Justice Okoro maintained that the apex court lacked jurisdiction to admit fresh evidence.
The Court also told Abubakar and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that they cannot call in additional witnesses after filing their briefs under the 21 day ultimatum for doing so.
Similarly, the apex bank also dismissed the appeal of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on the grounds that it lacked merit.
The seven-man panel led by Justice Inyang Okoro held that the appeal lacked merit and “is hereby dismissed”.
Obi, in his notice of appeal, had urged the court to overturn the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal’s (PEPT’s) September 6 decision, which upheld President Tinubu’s victory.
But the panel in a unanimous judgment on Thursday held that the appeal lacked merit and subsequently dismissed it.
