States, FCT Raked In N849.12Bn As IGR In H1 2021 – NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported that the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory generated N849.12 billion as Internationally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the first half of 2021.

The official statistics producing agency in its latest ‘NBS Internally Generated Revenue Report’ disclosed that Lagos State topped the revenue chart with N267.23 billion IGR during the period under review while Yobe State recorded the least IGR totaling N4.03 billion.

The NBS report stated, inter alia: “The 36 States and Federal Capital Territory’s Internally Generated Revenue amounted to N849.12bn in H1 2021.

“In the first quarter of 2021, the Internally Generated Revenue was N398.26bn while in the second quarter it amounted to N450.86bn. This indicates a positive growth of 13.21 per cent.

“Lagos state has the highest Internally Generated Revenue with N267.23bn in H1 2021, followed by the Federal Capital Territory with N69.07bn and Rivers State with N57.32bn, while Yobe State with N4.03bn recorded the least”, id added.

The report categorized the IGR into five categories, namely Pay As You Earn, direct assessment, road taxes, other taxes and revenue from Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

A further analysis of the IGR profiles on geo-political basis showed that the South-West geopolitical zone recorded the highest revenue, totaling 385.41 billion, followed by the South-South zone with N156.17 billion, while the North-East zone recorded the least IGR revenue of N42.92 billion.

The report indicated that of the IGR categories based on sources, PAYE contributed the highest revenue of N488.12 billion followed by revenue from the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) which totalled N173.56 billion.

The least performing category in revenue sources was Road Tax which grossed N16.75 billion in the half year period under review.
