Popular South African actor, Rapulana Seiphemo, on Tuesday admitted that he contravened tax laws for failing to file his tax returns for upward of four years.

The South African Revenue Services (SARS) had alleged that Seiphemo, popularly known as  Tau Mogale,  defaulted in tax remittances from 2013 to 2017 to the tune of over R48 000.

When proceedings opened on the popular TV star’s case on Tuesday at the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, the Prosecutor Advocate, Duduzile Robertse, told the court that there were ongoing engagements with defence counsel regarding an admission of guilt fine.

The matter was postponed to 28 November.

During Seiphemo’s first appearance in court on October 18, his legal team said that they needed time to engage with SARS and make arrangements pertaining to his tax debacles.

Following the plea, his case was postponed to November 13 and Robertse insisted that the accused actor had until the date to file representations to SARS to make an arrangement.

The Prosecutor Advocate said: “He must liaise with SARS; if that’s not done the State is proceeding with case.”
