The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Nigeria has called on all investors with unclaimed dividends to collect such dividends with a view to reducing the rising rate of unclaimed dividends due to lack of awareness about the processes of claiming them.

The Director-General of the capital market regulatory commission, Dr. Emomotimi Agama, made the appeal during an interactive session with the journalists after Public Hearing On Unclaimed Dividend Funds, Organized by the Senate Committee on Capital Market in Abuja on Monday.

The investment expert restated the SEC’s commitment to safeguarding the interest of investors in Nigeria and ensuring the timely claiming of their dividends.

He explained: “A streamlined process has been implemented by the SEC to facilitate investors in reclaiming their dividends. Regardless of the investments made in the capital market, dividends can be retrieved through the ongoing process.

“The e-dividend portal has been revamped to enhance accessibility, user-friendliness, and cost-effectiveness. This initiative aims to expedite the retrieval of dividends that have long been presumed lost.

“The procedure is straightforward. Investors simply need to visit the SEC portal at www.sec.gov.ng, where they will find the unclaimed dividend section. By clicking on the designated icon, investors can input their details to access information on dividends owed by companies over the past 12 years. By following the outlined steps, investors can reclaim their funds.

“Extensive awareness campaigns are set to be launched nationwide. This includes the introduction of a Capital Market podcast and the future establishment of the Capital Market Radio.

“These platforms aim to disseminate crucial information to investors across the country regarding their investments in the Nigerian Capital Market.

“Nigerian investors are reassured of the SEC’s dedication to enhancing their experience within the Capital Market.

“The SEC is committed to ensuring that every investor in the Nigerian Capital Market has a positive and rewarding journey. Former investors are encouraged to re-engage with the Capital Market”, the Director-General added.
