In furtherance of investor education programme for the nation’s investment publics, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has concluded plans to organize some enlightenment programmes for the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps.
The commission’s Head, Lagos Zonal Office, Mr. Stephen Falomo, gave this hint during a meeting between the Commission and Corps Commander, Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps, Major General O. Akintade and his team in his office in Lagos at the weekend.
Specifically, the SEC’s top official said that the capital market regulatory institution would organise one outreach programme at the Nigerian Army Ordinance Corps headquarters in Ojuelegba, Lagos in which about 100 officers were expected to participate.
He clarified further: “One outreach program will also be held at the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps training institute in Ojo with an expected participation of about three hundred (300) officers.
“It is hoped that these programs will become a continuous feature in the officers’ training program organized every quarter”, Falomo added.
The investment expert reiterated the commitment of the Commission to educate all stakeholders in order to improve local investors’ stake in the market currently dominated by foreign investors.
Falomo explained that the request by the Corps Commander for the SEC to educate the soldiers under his supervision was in line with the market development plan of the Lagos Zonal office and would be implemented.
According to him, some initiatives introduced by the Commission such as e-DMMS, regularisation of multiple accounts, direct cash settlement, transmission of shares, among others, are designed to ensure an investor-friendly and attractive system
Earlier in his remarks, the Corps Commander explained that the aim of the visit embarked on after his resumption in office about a month ago was to establish a cordial working relationship with stakeholders through a series of visits which commenced with the visit to the Commission.
Major General Akinlade expressed the hope that the Nigerian Army Ordinance Corps would benefit in full from the Commission’s investor education programme.
He said: “We are also here to discover other more profitable investment options available to the Nigerian Army Ordinance Corps apart from the staff contribution scheme currently in place”.
It would be recalled that the SEC recently organised a one-day enlightenment outreach in Abuja for officers of the Armed Forces, Police, para-military and other agencies on the investment initiatives in the capital market, and how to protect sundry investments.
