President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday restated his administration’s commitment to restructuring the Nigerian oil-dependent economy in furtherance of efforts to ensure its diversification and sustainable growth.
The President made this promise in his acceptance speech delivered shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him winner of the February 23 Presidential election.
While expressing his appreciation to voters, party chieftains, security agencies, domestic and international observers and others that contributed to making the election peaceful, Buhari said that the fight against corruption and insurgency would be intensified during his second term in office.
He said: “The new Administration will intensify its efforts in Security, Restructuring the Economy and fighting Corruption. We have laid down the foundation and we are committed to seeing matters to the end.
“We will strive to strengthen our unity and inclusiveness so that no section or group will feel left behind or left out”, Buhari stressed.
He expressed sadness over the grievous loss of lives during the elections, assuring that security agencies will step up their efforts to protect voters in the forthcoming Governorship elections.
