State and Local Government Pension Fund Management Committees in Ogun State have rated the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, high on his administration’s commitment to the welfare of workers and retirees in the state.
The committees made this remarks after their joint meeting on Friday, where they reviewed progress made in the ongoing implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) reforms in the state.
According to the committees, the government has recorded significant milestones, including the successful enrolment and verification of state and local government employees, consistent remittance of monthly pension deductions, and the approval of palliative support payments to retirees in the state.
They noted that over 24,000 workers had so far received their accrued pension rights, while death benefits had also been paid to 352 families of deceased employees even as existing pension laws were reviewed to strengthen administration, accountability, and sustainability of pension processes.

Reaffirming their commitment to transparency and prompt benefit disbursement, the committees assured stakeholders that they will continue to ensure that CPS obligations are diligently met in line with international best practices.
Representatives from the National Pension Commission (PenCom), who attended the session, provided guidance on aligning implementation steps with national regulatory standards.
The committees said their next phase of work will focus on addressing identified challenges, sustaining reforms, and scaling improvements for long-term pension security.
According to pension stakeholders, the progress recorded by the state government underscores Governor Abiodun’s dedication to prioritizing workers’ welfare and safeguarding the dignity of retirees in the state.
