Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) has disclosed that it rakes in N44.8 million as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) between January and August this year.

The corps commander, Mr Seni Ogunyemi, gave this hint on Monday when members of Ogun Assembly Committee on Transportation paid an oversight to the agency’s head office in Abeokuta.

Ogunyemi said that the revenue generated was largely from traffic fines and charges.

This is even as he explained that the agency had minimized road accidents in the state, adding that in the accidents that occurred, 11, 697 people were rescued unhurt while 12, 800 traffic offenders were apprehended in the period under review.

The road traffic management expert confirmed further that TRACE had established additional commands at Agbara, Ogbere, Ogijo, Ayetoro, Ikenne, Oke Odan, Ijebu Igbo and Odeda as well as established community based traffic management scheme to enlist public participation in safety matters across the state.

He, however, decried the paucity of personnel and vehicles in the agency which should have enhanced its operations siginificantly, adding that the agency is currently in need of 65 Hilux vehicles and 1, 500 additional staff to expand the scope of its operations across the state.

In his reaction, the Chairman of the committee, Mr Razak Oduntan, commended the traffic management efforts of the agency across the state, advising the leadership to plug loopholes in its revenue generation drive.

The lawmaker canvassed downward review of fines and charges on traffic offenders in the state, maintaining that offenders should be penalised with moderation.
