Despite the raging controversies over plans by the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN’s) management to relocate some of the bank’s departments to Lagos, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has also hinted of its plans to relocate some of its units from Abuja to Lagos.
The commission in an internal memo titled ‘Movement to Lagos’ circulated to its management indicated that the plan was aimed at improving efficiency of its operations, including fully utilizing its idle assets in the commercial city of Lagos
The memo reads: “In line with our objective of improving organisational efficiency, driving industry growth, and managing office accommodation in Abuja, we are exploring the possibility of relocating certain units to Lagos.”
“This initiative is driven by the need to enhance our service delivery, reduce operational cost and make adequate utilisation of our assets in Lagos.”
“Consequently, we are requesting each Department identify and provide a list of units that can operate independently and with minimal supervision”, the commission added.
According to the management, all departments should submit the names of requested units on or before the 23rd of February 2023.
It would be recalled that apart from the CBN, the Federal Government through the Ministry of Aviation also recently unveiled its intentions to transfer the headquarters of the NUPRC Mulls Relocation Of Units To Lagos from Abuja to Lagos to improve operational efficiency and cut costs.
Although some politicians and analysts have expressed some concern about the relocation of some CBN and FAAN’s departments to Lagos, claiming that such decisions will undermine the status of Abuja as the FCT, the Federal Government has remained unperturbed about such comments, hinging its stance on the need to improve the operations of the bank and the FAAN and also cutting financial wastages associated with running those departments from Abuja.
