The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on Monday said digitization of its downstream operations had been embarked on with a view to positioning it more effectively in the marketing of petroleum products competitively.
The corporation’s Chief Operating Officer, Downstream, Mr Adeyemi Adetunji, gave this hint while declaring open the 13th Oil Trading and Logistics Expo in Lagos.
He explained: “We are concscious of the fact that old approaches of driving cost efficiency and safety are pretty much exhausted, hence in line with the corporation’s Transparency, Accountability and Performance Excellence (TAPE) Agenda, NNPC is aggressively working on digitizing its downstream operations.”
The industry expert, who was represented by the Managing Director, Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC), Mr Bala Wunti, at the forum noted that emerging market trends toward a digitized and automated world had necessitated the need for refocusing downstream players’ strategies in the nation’s oil sector.
He pointed out further that the emerging value models revolved round the hydrocarbon and data-driven economy, adding that“all hands must be put on deck to fully digitize the downstream sector.
The conference which has as its theme, “Growth, Innovation and Technology”, is an annual PanAfrican platform dedicated to the promotion of business, policy and stakeholder relationships in downstream petroleum markets across the African continent.
