The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Wednesday reported that Nigeria’s unemployment rate rose to 23.1 percent in the third quarter of the year, up from the 18.8 percent rate recorded in the corresponding period of last year.
In the report titled ‘Labour Force Statistics – Volume I’ the agency stated that the number of unemployed increased from 17.6 million in Q4 2017 to 20.9 million in Q3 2018.
This is just as it disclosed that number of the economically active or working age population also increased from 111.1 million in Q3, 2017 to 115.5million in the quarter under review.
Similarly, the Bureau reported that the labour force rose to 90.5million in Q3, 2018 from 75.94 million in Q3 2015, 80.66 million in Q3 2016 and 85.1 million in Q3,2017.
