…Lekki Port Accounts For 48.4%
The latest report from the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) on the operations at the Nigeria’s seaports in the first half of this year indicated that 2,152 vessels berthed at the ports, representing 6.9 per cent rise year-on-year, with Lekki Port accounting for 48.4 per cent of the calls and nearly 40 per cent of national cargo throughput.
The data, which were presented by the agency’s Managing Director/CEO, Dr Abubakar Dantsoho at the Port Consultative Council’s quarterly meeting in Lagos, revealed that the rise in the traffic was primarily due to the Dangote Refinery traffic during the period under review.
He said that Lekki Port emerged as the best performing port and that Dangote Refinery traffic accounted for 76 per cent of total cargo traffic recorded at the port during the review period.

The industry regulator disclosed that inward cargo reached 38,411,323 metric tonnes compared with the 36,338,068 metric tonnes recorded in the first half of 2025, reflectin 5.6 per cent increase.
According to hum, Onne Port also posted strong growth, with a 26.6 per cent rise in vessel calls, supported largely by LNG exports, thus making the port to account for 22.7 per cent of national cargo throughput, he added, as eastern export traffic gathers pace.
Dantsoho further clarified: “Calabar and Rivers ports remained marginal contributors, jointly accounting for just over four per cent of cargo handled nationwide.”
He reported that other ports recorded a decline in vessel calls during the period, adding however that the gross registered tonnage rose to 96,693,108, representing 20.9 surge from 79,981,595 recorded in the first half of last year.
