Nigeria is set to receive about 115,000 metric tonnes of imported Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) estimated at approximately 154.2 million litres this week as five vessels conveying the commodity are scheduled to berth at Tin Can Island Port in Lagos and Calabar Port.
The latest shipping schedule of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) indicated that the imported fuel became imperative in order to supplement locally refined petrol.
An analysis of the Authority’s Daily Shipping Schedule – Vessels Expected showed that four of the vessels are expected to discharge petrol cargoes at the KLT Phase 3A terminal in Tin Can Island Port and another vessel will berth at the North West Petroleum & Gas terminal in Calabar Port.
The daily shipping schedule showed that the vessels were expected to deliver a combined 115,000 metric tonnes of imported petrol between Monday and yesterday.

A further analysis of the document showed that the vessel LESTE, with IMO Number 9285720, handled by Prescott Shipping Services Limited, was expected at the KLT Phase 3A terminal on Monday with 30,000 metric tonnes of PMS.
In addition, BORA (IMO 9276004), being handled by Rehdor Logistics Solution, is scheduled to berth at the same terminal with 10,000 metric tonnes of imported petrol.
Similarly, the NPA’s Daily Shipping Schedule – Vessels Expected further showed that ST ILHAAM (IMO 9278480) would arrive at KLT Phase 3A on Tuesday carrying 30,000 metric tonnes of PMS, while STELLAR (IMO 9288928) is expected on Wednesday with another 30,000 metric tonnes of imported petrol. Both vessels are being handled by Peak Shipping Services Limited.
Also, in Calabar, the vessel SL AREMU (IMO 9293947) of which Katrina Shipping is listed as the vessel’s agent, is scheduled to berth at the North West Petroleum & Gas Company terminal yesterday with 15,000 metric tonnes of PMS.
The NPA schedule also listed STELLAR at the Dangote terminal in Lekki Deep Sea Port with an arrival date of July 24.
The latest influx of imported petrol is coming a few days after the Dangote Refinery announced its continuation of PMS sale in Naira based on the management’s allegation that some fuel importers were deliberately holding back their stocks in anticipation of higher prices.
