As part of sustained drive to reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks in the public service to the barest minimum, the Federal Government has unveiled a Service-Wise GPT, an Artificial Intelligence-powered solution to enhance service delivery in the public sector.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, announced the innovative initiative of the government during the Global Government Summit held in Singapore.

In her presentation at the forum titled “Model Behaviour: How to Govern with AI, Empowering Governance with AI: Nigeria’s National AI Journey and Service-Wise GPT Insight, she explained that once fully operational , the AI tool would automate policy drafting, official memo writing, and provide real-time policy research assistance to public servants in the country.

Walson-Jack expressed optimism that the adoption of the tool would help to reduce administrative workload of public servants, ensure regulatory compliance with policies and regulations and fast-track decision making processes in the civil service.

She clarified: “Applying Service Wise GPT would save time and reduce administrative task hours for civil servants, improve compliance, ensure regulatory adherence, enhance productivity, facilitate faster decision making across ministries, and ultimately improve service delivery.”

While sharing insights from a 2025 research study which evaluated the Service-Wise GPT’s effectiveness, the HoCSF pointed out that respondents to the survey praised the tool for its role in improving work efficience and transparency in governance.

According to her, 73% of users saved 2-3 hours daily in their work schedules and the tool received a 90% user recommendation rate based on its efficiency and accessibility.

While stressing the Federal Government’s determination to modernize public governance through AI, Walson-Jack maintained that “the Service-Wise GPT is a testament to the commitment of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government to leveraging technology for public good.”

Currently in its Beta Phase, the Service-Wise GPT is a user-focused AI-powered assistant designed to streamline access to Public Service Rules, Statutory Instruments, Regulations, Guidelines, and other essential governance documents.

Experts believe that if effectively and transparently adopted in the Nigerian civil service it will revolutionize administrative processes across the MDAs and reduce the cost of governance with the attendant positive implications for improve efficiency in the public finance system.
