The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reported N118 billion revenue collections in August with three days to the end of the month, representing the highest monthly revenue by the agency so far.
The National Public Relations Officer of the Service, Joseph Attah, stated this in Abuja on Wednesday.
He stated: “This month, the Service has generated the highest ever monthly collection. It is still three days to the end of the month. And over N118 billion has been collected already.”
The agency’s spokesman attributed the improved collection to the upgrade of the electronic platform from Nigeria Customs Information System (NISES), pointing out that the “system has now effectively blocked all the leakages that were associated with the former platform. It now monitors every Kobo being collected in the system.”
Attah explained further that the implementation of NISES had enhanced the agency’s revenue collection capacity and increased its contribution to the national treasury, adding that the improved collections will assist the government to meet its promises to the citizenry in terms of infrastructure development and delivery of other socio-economic services.
On whether the implementation of the National Automotive Policy has improved the industry or impacted negatively on the indigenous investors’ operations, he clarified that being a government policy, the NCS was bound to implement the policy
He said: “Ours is to implement. But if you go to the streets, you will be able to know how many cars that have been assembled indigenously, and what local content value was brought into it.”
