The leaders of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the West Africa Telecommunications Regulatory Assembly (WATRA) have underscored the imperative of enhancing regional collaboration in driving the digital transformation agenda across Africa.
The leaders of the two entities expressed this desire during a meeting in Abuja at which they agreed to strengthen their partnership to propel Africa towards a digitalized and smart future.
According to them, achieving this laudable goal is feasible by pooling their resources, expertise, and efforts, they’re set to conquer common challenges and seize opportunities for digital advancement.
Specifically, the NCC and WATRA are determined to create a vibrant digital ecosystem, where innovation, investment, and sustainable development thrive. By fostering regional collaboration, they aim to bridge the digital divide, unlock new opportunities, and build a prosperous and inclusive Smart Africa.
During the meeting, the NCC’s leadership expressed its commitment to digital inclusion, a thriving digital economy, and leveraging technology to enhance the quality of life for all Nigerians, adding that the commission is ready to collaborate with WATRA and other regional stakeholders to drive the digital agenda forward.
Similarly, WATRA’s representatives at the meeting also maintained the Assembly’s dedication to regulatory harmonization, cross-border connectivity, and seamless digital services integration across West Africa and stressed the importance of collective action in overcoming barriers to digital transformation and maximizing technology’s socio-economic benefits.
Industry experts believe that the partnership between the NCC and WATRA will help in making them to have a shared vision for a digitally empowered Africa, where affordable and reliable telecommunications services are the norm, and innovative solutions drive progress across all sectors.
In addition, they projected that as Africa continued on its digital transformation drive, initiatives like the NCC-WATRA collaboration will shape the continent’s digital future with the attendant benefits for African nations to harness technology’s power to unlock new opportunities, bridge the digital divide, and build a prosperous and inclusive Smart Africa in the future.
