NCC Reports 866,656 New Internet Subscribers In Nigeria

The Nigeria Communications Commission on Wednesday reported that 866,656 Internet subscribers joined the networks of telecommunications companies in the country in July this year.

The development increased the subscribers number nationwide to 103.6 million, up from the 102,805,122 users in the preceding month.

The Commission, its Monthly Internet Subscribers report released today, indicated that Airtel, MTN and Globacom recorded more internet subscribers during the month while 9mobile lost some subscribers.

Specifically, the industry regulator reported that Globacom recorded 574,821 new internet users, thereby increasing its subscription to 27,146,075 in the month under review, up from the 26,571,254 on its network in June.

NCC disclosed further on the gainers’ team that MTN also had 134,171 new subscribers on its network  in the month under review, increasing its subscription to 39,071,670 as against 38,937,473  in the preceding month.

Similarly, it disclosed that Airtel gained 375,754 new internet users in July, thereby bringing its  total subscribers to 27,086,773 as against 26,711,049 in June.

However, 9mobile was reported to have lost 218,086 internet users on its network in the month under review, thereby decreasing its subscription to 10,367,260, as against the 10,585,346 subscribers it offered Internet services to in the preceding month.
