NCC Inaugurates Centre Of Excellence Hub For Advanced Research

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has unveiled its Centre of Excellence in Abuja in furtherance of its sustained efforts towards powering the nation’s digital economy on technical and vocational skills of Nigerians.

This initiative is designed to equip young techno-savvy Nigerians with the expertise required to position Nigeria on the leading edge of the rapidly evolving global digital space.

Speaking during the launching of the Centre, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, stressed the critical role of collaboration in transforming innovation facility into a big technological asset for sustainable growth of the economies in the Africa continent.

The minister said: “My expectation is that NCC will collaborate with more stakeholders to make this initiative a true Centre of Excellence for Africa. There is no society in the world that can prosper without connectivity. The connectivity requires humans for its proper functioning.”

In his remarks, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, expressed his delight over the facility dedicated to Nigerian radio engineers, harping on its potential benefits in terms of advancing the skills and capabilities of professionals in the ICT space.

According to him, the launch of the Centre is the first time in Nigeria that radio engineers in the country will have the opportunity to practically feel what a radio looks like.

The industry expert elaborately explainedon how the Centre’s initiatives in the 5G era would usher in unprecedented innovations and equip individuals with cutting-edge skills, assuring the “we would actually see a lot of innovations through this Centre.”

Experts believe that the Centre, which is crafted to offer immersive, advanced training, honing the essential skills needed to thrive in the digital economy, will close the skills gap and boost Nigeria’s tech workforce based on its particular focus on 5G technology.
