NCC Donates Laptops To Disabilities Commission

The Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) on Tuesday donated 50 sets of HP computer laptops to the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) in furtherance of its sustained efforts to ensure all barriers to ICT access by physically challenged are removed.

The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC)/CEO of NCC, Dr Aminu Maida, made the donation when a delegation from the telecom industry regulatory commission paid a courtesy visit to NCPWD headquarters in Abuja.

Represented by a Deputy Director in the Commission, Mr Tijani Munguno, the EVC said the provision of the ICT equipment was borne out of the NCC’s conviction that Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) required the tools.

He expressed his optimism that the equipment would boost digital communications expertise of PWDs to enable them compete in the fast evolving ICT space, adding that in addition to enhancing the digital capacity of PWDs, the equipment would support the commission in its determination to achieve its mandate.

Maida said: ”We recognised that in today’s world, access to digital technology is essential to providing quality output and efficiency. With these laptops, we hope we can make significant impact on disability community.”

In his remarks, the NCPWD’s Executive Secretary, Dr James Lalu, thanked the NCC management for the donation and support to PWDs and promised that his commission would partner with NCC to advance the digital communications skills and knowledge of PWDs.

He later presented to the NCC team the National Accessibility Manuals to enable the management get acquainted with the accessibility standard guidelines.
