In furtherance of its sustained efforts to enhance healthcare services in the country through technological tools and solutions, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Thursday commissioned an e-health project in Akure, Ondo State.

The commission’s Executive Vice Chairman/CEO,  Dr. Aminu Maida, in his address during the commissioning of the facility at the State Specialist Hospital, said the project reflected shared commitment to leveraging Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to transform the healthcare landscape in Nigeria and improve the quality of life for Nigerians.

According to him, the successful completion of the project underscores the commission’s dedication to fostering innovation, research, and digital growth; and makes it possible for the health sector in the country to be integrated into the digital economy to leverage the benefits currently being enjoined by other sectors.

The industry expert explained that the NCC’s approach was in two fold, namely by integrating ICT into the health sector, we bring it into the fold of Nigeria’s expanding digital economy;  and secondly, healthier citizens are better equipped to contribute meaningfully to that economy.

Maida pointed out that through the adoption of e-health solutions, the governments can deliver more efficient, accessible, and quality healthcare services regardless of geography.

He expatiated: “We believe this initiative will serve as a catalyst for further adoption of ICT in healthcare. The e-Health platform will simplify medical processes, enhance patient care, and improve the management of medical records, setting a new benchmark for healthcare delivery in Nigeria”.

“With the deployment of this technology at the State Specialist Hospital, healthcare professionals now have advanced tools to provide accurate diagnoses, timely treatments, and consistent follow-up care. We are confident that these improvements will lead to greater patient satisfaction and better health outcomes. Moreover, the benefits of this project extend beyond this facility impacting the wider community and inspiring replication in other institutions nationwide.

“Today’s commissioning also reaffirms the importance of partnerships. This project would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of various stakeholder including government bodies, technology experts, and our partners. Their support has helped us build a scalable and sustainable model that can be adapted across the country to ensure every Nigerian enjoys the benefits of digital healthcare”, the EVC added.

He maintained that through continued collaboration, the NCC would keep driving innovation and delivering impactful change in the country.
