The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on Tuesday announced plans to launch its Consumer Protection Portal next month as part of its efforts to enhance its relations with air travellers, investors and other stakeholders in the aviation industry through automated complaint handling system.

The agency, in a statement shared through its official X (formerly Twitter) handle hinted the planned launch of the portal would, which will represent a major feat in its consumer protection modernization, be conducted by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, on September 19 this year.

It stated: “The NCAA Consumer Protection Portal will be officially launched on September 19, 2024, by the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN.”

Industry analysts believe that the Consumer Protection Portal initiative being championed by the Acting Director-General of the NCAA, Capt. Chris Najomo, will transform interactions between air travellers, the regulatory agency and other key players in the aviation industry, including air operators.

When launched, the portal will enable air travellers to electronically file complaints against airline operators and other agencies and also help them in monitoring the real-time performance of the airlines with the attendant implications for improved services across the aviation industry’s value-chain.

It would be recalled that the NCAA had early this month organized a training programme for its officers and staff preparatory to the launch and operationalization of the technology-powered Consumer Protection Portal.

The agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu, in his opening remarks at the training programme disclosed that the NCAA’s ICT Department played a major role in the development of the portal, right from its conceptualization and planned launch scheduled for next month.

According to him, the department was instrumental to initiating the project’s design and ensuring that it meets global standards in terms of functionality and user accessibility.
