The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the agency statutorily mandated to oversee Nigeria’s statistical system, will today meet with stakeholders in the statistical system in furtherance of its sustained drive to enlighten data users on the transparency and methodological processes in data production with a view to boosting stakeholder confidence in the results of its surveys.

Specifically, the parley is organized by the statistics agency to proactively sensitise and engage data users and key stakeholders on what to expect, as well as to clearly communicate how it intends to address and contextualise the survey findings.

According to a Notice issued by the Bureau, the stakeholder engagement event will focus mainly on the December 2025 CPI/Inflation to strengthen the stakeholders’ understanding of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) dynamics, data trends, and interpretation of outcomes interpretation, amongst other issues.

Development experts have welcomed the parley given the heightened inflation expectations, noting that it is important to engage technical stakeholders ahead of the release of the inflation rate for the last month of 2025.

Over the past months, inflation has remained one of the most critical macroeconomic indicators globally.

In Nigeria, following the CPI rebasing in early 2025, the inflation rate moderated to 14% in November 2025 but analysts are projecting that the December 2025 inflation rate could be higher than the November 2025 inflation rate due to high demand for goods and services during the yuletide season.

They believe that the spike does not reflect deterioration in underlying structural or economic conditions, but rather it is a consequence of the computational methodology, which if not well understood by the stakeholders, risk heightening uncertainty, weakening confidence in official statistics, and complicating policy and business decision-making.
