MTN Nigeria, the largest mobile national operator (MNO) by subscription base, on Monday advised its subscribers to be more conscious on issues relating to cybersecurity by endeavouring to improve their knowledge on the threats and risks.
The telecom operator, in its advisory message with the hashtag #NCCBeCyberAware to mobile users on its network, advised them to urged the subscribers to endeavour to constantly learn about cybersecurity for the protection of their data and other critical information.
Specifically, the advisory harped on the need for its subscribers to always verify the authenticity of any email attachments before opening them, describing the simple yet effective precaution as vital in thwarting potential cyber threats, including malware and phishing attacks, that can undermine their personal information and device integrity.
Industry analysts believe that the telco’s advisory aligns with the Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC’s) awareness initiatives over the years, aimed at creating awareness for mobile users in the country about the risks of exposing themselves to cybercriminals’ antics to defraud them.
To protects telecom subscribers in the country, the industry regulatory commission has consistently restated its commitment to working with the MNOs and other stakeholders to ensure cybersecurity and shield subscribers from online dangers and encouraged them to be updated on the latest cybersecurity practices and to promptly report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
