The Nigeria Customs Service’s (NCS’) Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos Command has reported that it generated N20.9 billion into the federation account in 2022 fiscal year, representing a marginal improvement over the N19 billion it generated as revenue in 2021
The spokesperson of the command, Mrs. Juliana Tomo, who gave these figures in a statement, quoted the the Customs Area Controller, Mallam Mohammed Gidado, as saying that the improved revenue was made possible due to integrity of passengers in the declaration of goods and high level of compliance towards voluntary payment of courier parcels, passengers accompanied and unaccompanied baggage duty.
Gidado clarified: “The sum of N1,620,044,911.45 only was the revenue collected within same period in 2021. This simply implies that the command had an increased sum of N393,303,360.75 in 2022.
“The seamless travellers’ clearance procedure adopted by the command as initiated by the CAC over the period is worthwhile as evidenced in the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command revenue collected from August to December 2022”, he added.
According to him, the improved performance demonstrates the effectiveness of the strategies adopted by the command during the year.
The Customs Area Controller expressed optimism that the command would surpass its 2022 revenue generation performance this year as the officers and men command continue to leverage the knowledge gained on the adopted strategies.
