The Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, has been appointed into the Board of Directors of the International Institute of Communications (IIC) in recognition of his contributions to the global telecommunication development over the past years.

The IIC is a global, non-profit organization that aims to shape the policy agenda for the digital and ICT ecosystem through the discussion of controversial topics and policy issues in the converging media, technology, and telecoms industries.

Maida, who has played major roles in developing Nigeria’s telecommunications industry, in his new position as a member of IIC Board, is expected to make his expertise bear positively on the organisation, by contributing to sundry initiatives that are targeted at boosting the growth  and transformation of the telecom and media sectors globally.

His career spanned engagement with leading ICT companies, including the British Telecom, Cisco Systems, and EE Ltd, among others.

Prior to his appointment in NCC, the industry expert had served as the Executive Director of Technology and Operations at Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement Systems Plc (NIBSS), where together with other top shots championed the modernization of Nigeria’s digital payments system.

Maida holds earned a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Bath, a Masters in Information Systems Engineering from Imperial College London, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship from Cambridge Judge Business School.

Industry experts believe that based on his sound intellectual resourcefulness and career antecedents, Maida’s appointment into the Board of Directors of the IIC would add value to the global telecommunications spaces, including the rapidly changing media landscape, and foster partnership among the countries for innovative drives on a sustainable basis.
