The Lagos State Government has rectified a six-year-old basic salary error in the pay of civil servants across the state as part of its sustained efforts to improve the socioeconomic well-being of public servants in the state.

The initiative, which was announced on the official Lagos State Government’s handle on X, will reflect in the March 2024 salary of civil servants.

According to the X post, the adjusted basic salary will positively impact housing and transportation allowances of the public servants.

As expected, the State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is being commended by the public workers for the adjustment, which they described as reflecting his commitment to their well-being.

The adjustment was arrived at after series of negotiations between the labour unions and the state government and the updated salary structure now accurately represents the correct earnings of employees based on their ranks and grade levels.

Commenting on the state government’s latest measure, the Chairman of the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), Lagos State, Comrade Olusegun Balogun, thanked the Governor for prioritising workers’ welfare in his policy reforms.

According to him, by rectifying the salary disparities, Sanwo-Olu has enhanced the financial stability of the system and promoted a sense of trust and unity among the workforce in the public service for improved performance at all cadres.

The JNC chairman said: “The successful resolution of the salary error stands as a testament to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s proactive governance style and unwavering dedication to the well-being of Lagos State’s workforce.

“With this landmark achievement, the stage is set for continued collaboration and progress towards a brighter future for all stakeholders in the State”, Balogun added.
