The Post Clearance Audit (PCA) unit of Zone A office of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has recovered a total of N8.6 billion between January and June, this year to government’s coffers.
The recovery is N2.6 billion higher than the N6.0 billion recovered in the corresponding period of last year.
The Customs Comptroller in charge of the unit, Mr. Abba Kura, made this disclosure during the visit of Aminu Dahiru, Assistant Comptroller-General and Zonal Coordinator for Zone A.
Kura told ACG that in addition to the N8.6 billion recovered, the unit also uncovered another N2 billion underpayment in respect of a single transaction which, after several attempts to refute the figures, the defaulting company had agreed to pay.
According to him, the payment is coming after the Customs headquarters resolved the dispute between the unit and the defaulting company in favour of the Lagos PCA Unit.
In his remarks, the Zonal Coordinator commended the Controller and his team for ensuring that government’s revenue was recovered even after goods had exited the ports.
He described the function of the unit as sensitive in the Service’s drive for revenue collection based on the volume of trade processed by the Customs Service in the Lagos area.
Dahiru therefore charged the team to sustain the hard work in the overall interest of the nation’s economy, assuring the leader and his team of continued support from the Service at all times.
