Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) on Monday refuted alleged diversion of N3 billion from its coffers, describing the allegation as spurious and unfounded.
The revenue agency’s Director of Administration and Corporate Affairs, Mrs. Hassana Salahu, told journalists in Lokoja that the monthly revenue the state usually generates from Dangote Group is N65 million.
According to her, there is no way the Service could divert its collections as the revenue accounts are domicile in the governor’s office.
She also pointed out that the Chairman of KIRS, Mr. Yakubu Oseni, was not a signatory to any of the accounts since the Service operates cashless transactions.
Clarifying further on tax payments by the Dangote Group, Salahu explained that the last time the company remitted as much as N1 billion to the KIRS was in 2016, being an accumulation of unremitted taxes for years.
It would be recalled that the allegation that the Service diverted N3 billion, being tax paid by the Dangote Group, to illegal accounts had been rife in some quarters in the past few days.
