Kaduna State House of Assembly has commended the State Market Development and Management Company Limited for collecting over N177.8 million as revenue in seven months.
The Chairman House Committee on market development, Bashir Idris Gatari, gave the commendation on Monday in Kaduna when the management of the company defended their 2019 budget at the Assembly.
According to him, the amount generated by the company was 64 percent of its total revenue target of N278.4 million for 2018, adding that in view of its demonstrated capacity on revenue generation, the committee will increase the company’s budget for 2019 to N300 million.
The lawmaker urged the company improve in the areas of providing modern facilities in various markets across the state to boost economic activities.
In his remarks, the company’s Managing Director, Alhaji Suleiman Garba, explained that the company’s budget for 2019 had been pegged N278 million.
He listed some of the projects executed by the company so far as including the installation of over 50 sensor solar lights in and around the central market and over 150 fire extinguishers.
Garba assured the lawmakers that the company would do more in exploring new revenue sources for the state.
