Investors in Nigeria’s equities market suffered a huge loss on Thursday in a trading session fully dominated by the bears during the buy-in and sell-off struggle, with the local bourse closing negative to break a four-day bullish trend.
At the end of the day’s trading session, the All-Share Index (ASI) traded 0.90% lower to close at 52,109.43 index points as against 52,580.86 index points recorded in the previous day’s trading session.
Also, the market capitalization depreciated by N256 billion to close at N28.374 trillion, also indicating a 0.90% loss by investors compared to the N28.630 trillion the bourse closed at the end of Wednesday’s trading session.
Available data from the market’s supervisory institution, the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) indicated that the market breadth closed negative as ACADEMY (-10.00%) led the losers’ chart, ABCTRANS (10.00%) led the gainers while ACCESS HOLDINGS Plc was the most traded equity at the end of today’s session.
The NGX data showed that the volume traded during the trading session totaled 334.24 million, valued at N5.15 billion in 5,350 deals.
According to the trading indices, the five top gainers are ABCTRANS, which gained 10.00% to close at N0.44 per share; MRS, which gained 9.97% to close at N40.80 per share; NPFMCRFBK, which grossed 9.37% gain to close at N1.75 per share; COURTVILLE – gained 9.30% to close at N0.47 per share; and TRIPPLEG, that gained 9.26% to close at N2.95 per share
Conversely, the five top ASI losers were ACADEMY, down by -10.00% to close at N1.53 per share; ARDOVA, which depreciated by -9.88% to close at N22.35 per share; MCNICHOLS – down by -9.33% to close at N0.68 per share; HONYFLOUR, down by -8.62% to close at N2.65 per share and REGALINS, which was down by -6.25% to close at N0.30 per share
The NGX data further reflected that the top three traded stocks comprised ACCESSCORP – 64,689,023; GTCO – 51,123,475; and ZENITHBANK – 29,058,428 while the top three traded by value were GTCO – N1,340,548,041; ZENITHBANK – N725,712,418; and ACCESSCORP – N656,268,044
