The Federal Government has said it will soon issue a circular to all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for compulsory insurance of all government assets.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, disclosed this in Abuja when he received the governing board of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM).
Mustapha, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office (GSO) Dr. Maurice Mbaeri, to receive the NAICOM’s delegation, advised the insurance industry regulatory commission to come up with a draft document to guide his office in properly articulating the circular.
The SGF said: “Send a draft copy of the circular to the SGF, after the review, of the circular will be released to the MDAs. The draft circular should reflect what you want. If it meets the SGF’s expectations, it will be issued to the appropriate MDAs”.
He also advised the NAICOM board, amongst others, to “write for the decentralization of insurance premium amongst the MDAs”.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman, Governing Board of the commission, Dr. Abubarkar Sani, solicited the support of the SGF in the board’s moves to introduce compulsory insurance scheme for all MDAs.
The insurance industry regulator pointed out that the Commission was interested in seeing all government assets insured, stressing that “we want the SGF to issue a circular or letter to all MDAs on the necessity of compulsory insurance”.
