FG Saves N143bn Through Whistleblower Policy

The Presidential Initiative on Continuous Audit (PICA) has disclosed that Federal Government  recovered about N143.89 billion from corrupt officials through the implementation of the whistleblower policy.

The PICA reported that the amount comprised, N7.8 billion, 378 million dollars and 27,800 pounds sterling.

This is even as it stated that Federal Government received 8,373 tips since the whistleblower policy was introduced in 2016 to fight financial crimes and corruption.

According to the body, 1,231 tips received were on financial crimes out which791 cases were investigated by the government and 534 of the investigated cases completed.

The PICA also indicated that government was able to save N208 billion through the payroll audit of the Ministries Department and Agencies (MDAs). While N97.94 billion was saved in 2016, it was reported that N110.46 billion was saved last year.

It also stated further that the savings were the recoveries from salaries paid to ex-diplomats, plugging of leakages in personnel costs of MDAs and reduction in non-regular allowances paid to the armed forces, para-military agencies and health institutions.
