The Federal Government has inaugurated two Siemens mobile substations in Lagos and Kebbi States with a target of 625MW power generation as part of its efforts to boost the nation’s power supply nationwide.
The Special Adviser on Strategic Communications to the Minister of Power, Bolaji Tunji, disclosed the inauguration of the substations in a statement on Friday.
The Special Adviser quoted the Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, as making the remarks during the inauguration of a 63 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA), 132/33 Kilo Volt mobile station Ajah, Lagos, and the unveiling of a 60MVA, 132/33KV Power Transformer In Birni-Kebbi, in Kebbi State.
According to him, the minister highlighted the mobile substations’ deployment initiative, which is expected to reduce power transmission challenges by over 130MV nationwide.
The minister also spoke on the importance of the project and other installed equipment under the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), stressing that the mobile substations will support businesses and other electricity users nationwide, acting as a temporary solution to power blackout during maintenance and emergencies
Adelabu commended the collaborative efforts of the FGN Power Company, the German government, and Siemens Energy, whose collaboration helped in the production and installation of the substations, including the 60MVA power transformer in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, which he remotely inaugurated.
He said: “Together, this equipment will boost our transmission wheeling capacity by 123MW, thereby paving the way for enhanced electricity supply for all Nigerians.
“I urge you all Nigerians to safeguard these vital installations against acts of vandalization and sabotage”, the minister added.
Earlier in his remarks, the Managing Director of FGN Power Company, Kenny Anuwe, stressed the importance of such initiatives like the PPI in the nation’s drive for energy sufficiency and socioeconomic development.
