President Bola Tinubu has signed the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025, into law, thereby extending the implementation of the 2025 budget by three months to December 31, 2026.

The extension of the budget’s implementation deadline from September 30 by the President was sequel to passage of the amendment request by him by both chambers of the National Assembly on Tuesday, September 29.

A statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, indicated that the extension was intended to provide Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) additional time to complete ongoing capital projects.

He stated that the extension of the budget implementation would also allow funds already appropriated in the 2025 budget to be fully utilised for projects and programmes without disrupting critical government initiatives.

Tinubu commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly for their prompt consideration and passage of the amendment, describing the lawmakers’ action as another demonstration of cooperation between the Executive and Legislature in advancing national interest.

With the President’s assent, all MDAs have now been given up to December 31 this year  to implement the affected capital components of the 2025 Appropriation Act.
