The Federal Government on Tuesday hinted that it will today, in partnership with Ericsson, launch a ‘Connect NextGen’ Innovation Hackathon to enhance Nigerian youths’ skill in modern technologies deployment and adaption in their career endeavours.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice-President, Mr Stanley Nkwocha, who gave this hint in a statement, said the four-month programme to be supervised by the Office of the Vice-President, would be launched at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
According to him, the Hackathon had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Government and Ericsson, focusing on digitally enhancing the youths’ skills in emerging technologies.
The SSA to the President stated that participants would bring innovative ideas to life through the government-backed programme in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Nkwocha further clarified that the programme would offer hands-on mentoring, an eight-week acceleration phase, and practical learning across priority technologies including 5G, IoT, cloud, AI and sustainable solutions.
He quoted the Head of Ericsson West Africa, Majda Lahlou Kassi, as saying that the company was “proud to partner with the Federal Government of Nigeria on its transformation journey.
“Through skills development initiatives and the Ericsson Educate programme, we aim to strengthen Nigeria’s digital ecosystem”, she added.
Kassi explained that talent development and informed policy dialogue would help address connectivity gaps and enable inclusive, sustainable growth of the country.
