The Federal Government has reassigned the Pro-Chancellors and Chairmen of the Governing Councils of the Federal Universities of Oye-Ekiti and Lokoja to enhance national cohesion and improve the governance of the two institutions.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, who made this disclosure, explained that the re-assignment of the affected tertiary institution’s council chairmen followed the approval of President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued by the Director, Press and Public Relations of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, the exercise involved the swapping of Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, who was reassigned as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, while Engr. Kayode Ojo will assume the same position at the Federal University, Lokoja.
According to the director, the change came after it was discovered that the current Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Engr. Kayode Ojo, is an indigene of Ekiti State.
Boriowo further clarified that as part of the Ministry’s commitment to promoting national integration and ensuring impartial oversight, it had been the standard practice for Pro-Chancellors to be appointed from outside the state of the university, to ensure unbiased governance and support the core values of diversity and national unity.
The director quoted the minister as stressing that the reassignment is a step towards strengthening the leadership structure of Nigeria’s federal universities, ensuring that they operate under fair and inclusive governance.
Alausa, who said that all the changes were with immediate effect, expressed optimism that they would positively impact the effective administration and development of the universities, ultimately benefiting Nigerians.
