The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a total of N92,123,175,305.77 for the construction of a second runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, gave this hint on Wednesday after the FEC’s virtual meeting, presided by President Buhari at the Villa, Abuja

According to him, the sum would be committed to sundry construction works to be carried out at the airport, over a period of 12 months.

Sirika, while speaking on how the resources for the project will be sourced given the paucity of funds in the country, told State House correspondents that “the administration would use the same strategy it had used to raise funding for all of its other projects across sectors to deliver the runway in 12 months”.

The approval for the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport second runway project came barely 24 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari inaugurated the new terminal of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

During the inauguration of the MMIA’s new terminal on Tuesday, President Muhammadu Buhari charged the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed to source special funds for the project.
