The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved group life assurance policy for President, Vice President, Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, and employees across ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
The policy is designed to provide financial relief to the families of deceased political office holders and public servants
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, announced the approval of the policy by the FEC during a press briefing on the decisions taken at the Council’s meeting at the State House in Abuja.
According to her, the approval of the policy demonstrates the present administration’s commitment to the welfare of federal workers.

Walson-Jack said: “The Federal Government has taken out a life policy on each public servant. In the unfortunate event of death, the next of kin will receive benefits to cushion the loss.”
The HoS explained that policy coverage also include the President, Vice President, Ministers, key paramilitary and uniformed organisations, such as the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Correctional Service, Federal Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Office of the National Security Adviser.
Walson-Jack disclosed that 17 insurance underwriters had been appointed to manage the policy, which will take effect once premiums are paid, in line with the government’s “no premium, no cover” directive, and be renewed annually.
She recalled that the policy had been in existence for several years, but many public servants were unaware of its provisions.
