The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered over N104.1 million in unremitted taxes from Kiara Rice Mills Limited and paid it to the Niger State Government’s coffers.
The Commission, which handed over the amount to the state government on Wednesday at its Ilorin Zonal Directorate, stated the recovered sum of N104,091,162.46 represented outstanding taxes accumulated between 2021 and 2024 by the rice firm located in Kpatsuwa Village, Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to the anti-graft agency, intelligence received in February this year showed that the firm had failed to remit its full tax obligations for the four-year period, despite operating profitably in the state, thereby prompting an investigation by its Foreign Exchange Malpractice Section, which later confirmed the tax infractions.
Speaking at the recovered tax handover ceremony, the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, who was represented by the Ilorin Zonal Director, Commander of the commission, Dr. Ansalem Ozioko, said: “The function of the EFCC is to prevent, investigate, and prosecute economic and financial crimes, recover what was stolen, and return it to the rightful owners. That is exactly what we are doing here today.”

The Executive Chairman urged the Niger State Government to continue partnering with the EFCC by reporting any act that fails the integrity test.
The Group Head of Tax Operations at the Niger State Internal Revenue Service (NSIRS), Alhaji Aminu Bawa, while receiving the recovered unremitted taxes commended the EFCC for its diligence.
He said: “On behalf of the Niger State Government, I wish to express our sincere appreciation to the Commission for this commendable recovery effort. This development will have a direct and positive impact on the lives of our people.”
